Bringing In The Magic
August 20 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
An event every 2 days that begins at 1:00 pm, repeating until August 22, 2019
A Painting Workshop with Mary Montague Sikes
This 3-day workshop focuses on building texture and developing your own “voice” in your artwork.
The first day will feature two demonstrations, starting with oil and cold wax and then texture with acrylics. Students who wish to work in cold wax will then have the rest of the time to experiment with building history on the surface of wooden panels, canvas, paper, and/or canvas board, then creating finished work on the final day. A demonstration using Robert Doak watercolor paints on Yupo will highlight the third day of this workshop.
The miracle of acrylics is that the artist can work on many surfaces, and oil paint can be used on top to create a finished painting. Students can use painting materials of their choice. The instructor will also show working techniques for “Painting Like Georgia” using acrylic materials.
This workshop is designed to allow students to learn about the possibilities of working with oil and cold wax without having to invest in another line of supplies. They can then work with acrylics to develop texture for their paintings. Those who are curious about working in watercolor on Yupo will have an opportunity to learn more about that process.
The instructor will work with individual students, helping them learn more about developing and enhancing their own “voices” and styles. This will be a fun three days that will be much like an artist retreat. All levels.
