“Collective Diversity” with The CRIT Club
May 4 @ 6:00 pm - May 26 @ 5:00 pmFree
“Collective Diversity”, is an exhibition of the artworks of the CRIT Group from Washington, DC. This group of artists, currently numbering 13, first came together while receiving Masters of Fine Arts Degrees at the American University in 1986 and have steadily met once a month since then. The meetings are inspired by the thesis critiques they had while earning their degrees and provide an opportunity to discuss their work and exchange ideas.
Local artist and Arts on Main teacher Rose Nygaard has been a founding member of the group and will be exhibiting her paintings in the show, which features a great variety of techniques and media. The CRIT Group’s art work has been exhibited individually and collectively in local, national and international settings such as: Musee de Luxembourg, Paris, France; The Woodward Museum in Philadelphia, PA; The Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Phillips Collection, The national Air and Space Museum, The Woman’s Museum of Art and the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. as well as being associated with metropolitan Washington galleries and alternative art space over last 25 years.
Live music will be provided by Paige Melton, a classic folk musician who plays the hits from the 60’s and 70’s. Her repertoire consists of Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Janis Joplin and James Taylor in addition to a number of popular artists from more current decades.
The opening is free and open to the public, with beer, wine and paninis available. The exhibition runs for the month of May.
