Glassblowing with York River Glassworks
October 17 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm$50.00
These are individual classes, not a series of classes.
Learn the wonder and joy of working with glass! Initially you will get the feel for the heat by sitting & making two objects, a glass flower and paper weight. Working dexterity while reading heat, along with the excitement of something so different, keeps you very busy. Repeat students will move on to more advanced techniques and projects. Ages 12+ welcome. Children must attend class with their parent/guardian.
Students will need to wear cotton clothing, long pants and shirts. No open toed shoes will be permitted in the glass studio. Hair should be held back from the face, use of bandanas are suggested. Prepare to sweat! Safety equipment will be provided and sanitized prior to use. Water and electrolytes will be provided as you will lose plenty due to the heat. Please be aware, due to the nature of learning glass blowing, social distancing is not always possible. While we will do our best to maintain these standards within the class, if you have strict health concerns, we suggest that you not take this course. Due to this fact, we will be doing temperature checks upon arrival. We ask that if you have experienced any cold or flu-like symptoms leading up to the day of class that you call the gallery to find an alternate class date. Please be aware that you will be working with extremely hot glass and metal. You may get burned.
***Please note this is an OFFSITE CLASS. An address to York River Glassworks will be provided upon registration.***
Students will complete two finished works during class. The finished pieces will need to anneal in the studio for 24 hours. Works can be picked up at Arts on Main the following business day. Please call the gallery (804-824-9464) prior to picking up.
Max class size 4
