“Abstracting the Essence of Flora and Fauna”
This 5-day class, taught by artist/author and the 2021 Gloucester Arts Festival Judge, Larry Moore. The workshop will push you into new territory where growth lives. Centered around the interpretation of the landscape with a focus on the principles of design and abstraction, you will be shown a system for developing your voice as an artist. The emphasis is on creative process, exploring new ways to develop a painting, inventive compositions, and new ways to think and build intent in your work.

Maura Allen, Botanical painter, Graduate of Chelsea School of Botanical Painting, London will be here in Gloucester, Virginia to conduct this workshop at Brent & Becky’s Bulbs.
This half day workshop will cover basic plant recording techniques in the field and a short introduction to botanical painting with watercolours and pencil. This is open to all ages and all levels of drawing. All equipment will be provided and you will leave with your own notebook, watercolour paper samples, sample brush, pencil and basic paint palette. Your own digital camera or camera phone would be useful too.

The workshop is for beginning and intermediate students and will include topics such as composition, values, color scheme, focal point and more. Goal is not to go home with a finished masterpiece but to study and practice through a demo, examples, exercises and hand-outs…oh yes, and lots of personal attention! Bring your work for a (private) critique if you like.

Learn how to paint beautiful landscape oil paintings by award-winning artist, Lynn Mehta. The focus of this workshop will be on how to translate reference materials in order to create studio landscape paintings filled with color and light. Learn strategies to develop a successful painting, expand our skills, and tap into our personal inspiration. All instruction will be done in oil, for all skill levels. Two day workshop will be held on February 10th & 11th. Students may attend one or both classes.
Recognized for loose impressionistic paintings filled with thick, impasto oil paint and color, Lynn Mehta is an award-winning artist living in Alexandria, Virginia. An artist since childhood, Mehta holds a B.A. in Art from San Diego State University and has studied with internationally acclaimed artists. Mehta works in her home studio and travels to paint when she can. As a full-time artist, Mehta’s record of honors, awards, and professional accolades is extensive. Her membership includes the Salmagundi Club in NYC, Washington Society of Landscape Painters, American Society of Marine Artists, Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters, and the American Artists Professional League in NYC. Mehta sells her work in multiple events and is represented by numerous galleries. Her paintings hang in public and private collections in the US and abroad.
