Art Adventure Camp: Preschool (Ages 3-5) Round 2

Art Adventure Camp
PreSchool (Ages 3-5)
Round 2: August 9-11
9am-12pm

Join us for a week of artistic exploration for summertime fun! Art campers will learn different techniques and explore different media as they learn about historical artwork and artists. As we cut, draw, paint, glue, play games and interact with each other, children will have an enriching art experience as well as a fun time with new friends! Come join us for a fun-filled week of art adventure!

Gustave Klimt

Students will view the art of Klimt noting the difference between traditional portraiture and his revolutionary craft of combining patterns with realistic faces. We will create “sleepy faces” and surround them with collages using bits of wrapping paper and metallic ink pens.

Prehistoric Art

Children will learn about the discovery of fire and how prehistoric man was afforded time to story tell and make art painting on cave walls. We will make our own paint out of charcoal and oil and create stories on brown crumpled paper to simulate rock walls. Students will be able to share their stories with each other.

Chilean Rain Sticks

We will be talking about the mystical powers of ritual and the environment. Ancient peoples in South America used rain sticks to summon the gods to bring rain for their crops. These musical instruments were not only beautiful and lovely to hear- they also symbolized a fruitful harvest.

All materials will be provided by the instructor. Limited spots available. Students may bring a snack and a drink with them.

Registration Deadline: Friday, August 5

Cost per child is $120.

Art Adventure Camps will be taught by Anne Atkinson. Anne Atkinson holds a degree in Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has worked as a Scenic Artist for theatre for many years. Anne has taught art to people of all ages- from toddlers to seniors. She was raised in a family that embraced education and the arts…music and painting. Singing and dancing were always part of her life. She is looking forward to encouraging exploration of the arts in Gloucester!
