My interest in plants and gardening and my career as an art teacher have been very happily merged through the medium of botanically painting. The exacting technical requirements and botanical accuracy required a rethink in my approach to painting. Having come from a conceptual training at Art School and many years as teacher using very creative and free techniques to encourage children to succeed it has been a huge challenge to work within the very narrow perimeters of super accurate water colour painting. I hope I will be able to take you on this journey of mastering a new career in middle age!
Maura Allen, Botanical painter, Graduate of Chelsea School of Botanical Painting, London will be here in Gloucester, Virginia to conduct this workshop at Brent & Becky’s Bulbs.
This half day workshop will cover basic plant recording techniques in the field and a short introduction to botanical painting with watercolours and pencil. This is open to all ages and all levels of drawing. All equipment will be provided and you will leave with your own notebook, watercolour paper samples, sample brush, pencil and basic paint palette. Your own digital camera or camera phone would be useful too.
